ASPEN, Colo. - It doesn't look like Aspen will enact a 14 mph speed limit in one of its neighborhoods after all.

City Council members had suggested the odd speed limit in an attempt to get the attention of drivers and have them slow down in the West End neighborhood.

Councilmembers now are considering lowering the speed limit citywide from 25 mph to 20 mph after finding issues with a 14 mph speed limit. For one thing, a federal government manual on traffic control devices says displayed speed limits must be in multiples of 5 mph.

It also would cost more money to change the speed limit in one neighborhood instead of citywide, since extra signs with the different limits would have to be posted.
