An arson suspect is facing 14 counts of attempted first-degree murder in connection with a fire at a duplex in Lakewood last week.

Fourteen people - including nine minors - were inside the home at West 5th Avenue and Eaton Place when the fire started around 3:30 a.m. on April 12. Fortunately, they all got out of the building safely.

Christopher Magana, 27, is facing a total of 35 charges, including multiple counts of arson and criminal mischief.

Magana was was advised of the charges that have been filed against him in court Tuesday.

He is being held on $500,000 cash bond.

Flames were crawling across the roof, the garage and even the hood of a car when Denver7 pulled up to the scene. Denver7 photojournalist Daryl Orr saw people screaming and running from the duplex.

Investigators determined the fire initially started with the car in the driveway. Neighbors heard explosions but the fire department believes this was the sound of tires popping in the heat.
