Armed senior attacked in her own home in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - A senior citizen who grabbed a gun to protect herself after seeing someone looking through her bedroom window was attacked, sexually assaulted and robbed.

The 71-year-old told police she was watching TV at 10:15 p.m. on Thursday when she saw someone in the window.

The woman, who lives alone, got her handgun for protection, police said.

The woman told officers that she walked out of her bedroom and was standing in the hall when the man burst through her front door and attacked her before she could fire her gun.

The man knocked the gun out of her hand, threw her to the ground and sexually assaulted her, police said.

The woman told officers the man took the gun and robbed her of about $100 before leaving the house.

The attacker was described as a black man in his mid-20s. The woman said the man was about six feet tall with a medium build,  short cropped hair and no facial hair. He wore a tan “jumpsuit” style outfit that could possibly be a Carhartt style set of overalls.  He was also wearing tan work boots.

The woman told police that the attacker said he was homeless.

He took a blue comforter from the woman's sofa.
