An Air Force Academy cadet died Friday morning in Colorado Springs.

Academy officials said the cadet was found unconscious. The cadet was taken to Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs, where the cadet was pronounced dead.

Fellow cadets were told about the death during lunch.

The name of the cadet is being withheld for 24 hours according to Department of Defense instructions, officials said.

"The Academy family is deeply saddened by the death of one of our own.  Our heart-felt condolences go out to the family and friends of our cadet," said Lt. Gen. Mike Gould, Superintendent of the Air Force Academy.  "Our Air Force family is grieving this loss, and we are committed to helping the family through this extremely difficult time."

The cause of the death is under investigation.
