Woman found shot, dead in car near 52nd and Pecos Sunday morning

Person of interest sought in case

ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. - The Adams County Sheriff's Office is investigating a homicide after a woman was found shot to death inside an SUV near west 52nd Ave. and Pecos Street.

"The whole driver's side was busted out," said Zach Lucero, whose family restaurant shares the parking lot where the vehicle was found.

Sgt. Paul Gregory said a deputy first noticed the red Ford Expedition before six Sunday morning in a parking lot near Pecos Street. When he approached the SUV he found the woman's body.  According to scanner traffic, the woman was shot multiple times and was cold to the touch.

"The officer said that it was a young girl who had been shot.  They didn't say exactly where she was shot, just that she had been shot," said Lucero.

Neighbors told 7NEWS they didn't hear any gunshots or anything else suspicious during the night.  Detectives went door to door Sunday morning looking for witnesses.

"The cops came over about six this morning and asked if I heard anything," said one neighbor.

Investigators haven't released the woman's identity.  Neighbors who didn't want to be identified told 7NEWS the woman and SUV were frequently at a bar just one building away from the crime scene.  They didn't know whether she was at that bar last night or why someone would want her dead.

The SUV was towed and investigators said they will process it for evidence.

Sunday afternoon, the sheriff's office asked for the public's help in locating a "person of interest" in the case.  They identified the person as 25-year-old Miguel Angel Gonzalez. He is 6-feet tall and weighs 215 pounds, with black hair, brown eyes and numerous tattoos on his arms, hands, chest, neck and abdomen.

Gonzalez' arrest record dates back to 2007.   Arrests over the last few years include assault, menacing and a violation of a protection order in January, according to records obtained by 7NEWS.

Gonzalez may be driving a maroon 1994 Mercury sedan with Colorado license plate 005 WTZ.  The vehicle has oversized wheels.
