Accused child molester wanted in Longmont case arrested in Texas

Police: Suspect to be extradited

LONGMONT, Colo. - Longmont police say an accused child sexual assault suspect has been nabbed in Texas.

On Jan. 22, police had asked for the public's help in locating David Mitchell Johnson, 49,  accused of sexually assaulting a child that he knew. Police said Johnson had arrest warrants for sexual assault on a child and sexual exploitation of a child.

The crime was reported on Dec. 31, 2013 and Johnson fled Longmont shortly after.

According to police, Johnson went to the Hurst Police Department to claim a vehicle that had been stopped with two people inside.  They were wanted on unrelated warrants, police said.

Johnson showed up to claim the vehicle so it wouldn't be towed and police ran a computer check on him, discovering the sexual assault warrant from Boulder County.  Johnson was arrested and is being held in jail in Texas, pending extradition to Colorado.

Hurst is located between Dallas and Fort Worth.
