DENVER - "This president has been focused on raising taxes," said Rep. Scott Tipton on the U.S. House floor.

The Pueblo Republican was giving giving familiar Republican talking points on how to avert falling over the fiscal cliff.

"He is implying Washington D.C. needs the money, more than our people at home," said Tipton.

Tipton isn't the only one defending his party's line. 7NEWS has been tracking Colorado lawmakers to see what they're doing this week to make progress.

Republican Doug Lamborn's office is promoting a letter he sent to his constituents this week pledging to cut spending.

Rep. Mike Coffman is having phone discussions with Colorado mayors. While his Republican colleague Cory Gardner held a town hall phone conference with constituents Wednesday night.

It's unclear if any of these steps will lead to legislation that both parties will approve.

On the other side of the aisle, 7NEWS asked for specifics from Democratic representatives Jared Polis, Ed Perlmutter and Diana DeGette.

Our requests to their staff members went unanswered.
