Huge Powerball jackpot, Boulder bulbs and more: 5 Things to Know for Wednesday, Aug. 23

DENVER – Good morning, everyone! Here’s what you need to know today on Wednesday, August 23.

1. Massive Powerball jackpot tonight
In case you missed it, the jackpot for tonight's Powerball drawing is an estimated $700 million -- the second biggest in U.S. history. The deadline to buy tickets is 7:30 p.m.

2. Police use tear gas, pepper spray on Trump protesters
Outside Pres. Trump's rally in Phoenix, two people were arrested for aggravated assault and one person was arrested for criminal damage, according to police. At the rally, Trump suggested he might pardon controversial former sheriff Joe Arpaio.

3. Boulder bulb giveaway
The city of Boulder is holding its annual tulip bulb giveaway this morning at 10 a.m. in front of the Boulder County Courthouse on the Pearl Street Mall. About 6,000 bulbs are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

4. Demolition day at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo
Crews will start tearing down the old aquatics building at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo to make way for a new hippo and penguin habitat. The zoo's hippos went to a zoo in Missouri last year and they'll return when the new habitat opens in two years. The penguins went to New York, where they'll stay. The zoo will get new penguins plus a few other animals for the new exhibit.

For Wednesday and Thursday our highs will be in the mid to upper 80s with chances for afternoon showers and storms.
