DENVER – Good morning, everyone! Here’s what you need to know today on Wednesday, August 16.

1. Troopers talk safety ahead of busy eclipse weekend
The Colorado State Patrol will hold a safety briefing Wednesday ahead of the expected rush of solar eclipse-related traffic this weekend.

2. Singing telegram delivered to Hicknelooper
Members from the organization Colorado Moms Know Best and a costumed professional will thank Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper Wednesday for his leadership on state climate action with a candy treat and a singing telegram.

3. Colorado Gov. Hickenlooper, Lt. Gov. Lynne host health care town hall
Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper and Lt. Governor Donna Lynne will host a health care town hall Wednesday. Aurora Mayor Steve Hogan will also participate. The meeting will be at the Aurora Municipal Center.

4. More kids head back to school
Today is the first day of school for thousands of students in the Denver metro area, including grades K-9 in Adams 12, some schools in Boulder Valley and high schools in Brighton 27-J.

5. Cooler today
Wednesday will be cooler with showers expected. Highs will be in the 70s. Warmer and drier weather will move into the region for the end of the week.
