3-year prison sentence handed down for James Bryant in Wheat Ridge stabbing case of John Ferrara

A three-year prison sentence now faces the Wheat Ridge man convicted of stabbing his girlfriend's ex-husband last year.

John Ferrara, Jr. was stabbed in the neck, arm and torso after midnight on May 30, 2013. According to the District Attorney Spokesman Pam Russell, Ferrara had just brought his two children to their grandfather's house for a visit.

After walking the children to the door, but before Ferrara could return to the car, James Bryant and Nicole Ferrara arrived in another vehicle. Nicole Ferrara is John Ferrara's ex-wife.

A short argument erupted, Russell said, before Ferrara began hitting her ex-husband and then Brant began punching and stabbing him.

"He collapsed in a pool of blood," Russell wrote about the victim. "He was transported to the hospital where he was treated."

Nicole Ferrara pled guilty third degree assault and was previously sentenced to two years of probation.

Bryant was sentenced on Monday. He pled guilty to second degree assault, a felony, on January 21, 2014.
