AURORA, Colo. - A 2-year-old girl was on life support Wednesday after her head was trapped between the window and door frame of an SUV Tuesday evening.
The girl's mother left five children between the ages of 10 months and 10 years old alone in the red SUV for 10 to 15 minutes, according to police.
The car was parked outside a condominium complex at 15486 East Louisiana Avenue just before 7 p.m. That is in the area of East Mississippi Avenue and South Chambers Road.
The mother said when she came back to the car, the little girl was not breathing.
Investigators said the mother, who has not been identified, took the girl to The Medical Center of Aurora, South Campus herself. That's about a mile-and-a-half away.
The little girl was then flown to Children's Hospital in Denver.
Lt. Gary Millspaugh with Aurora Police said at last check, the toddler was still not breathing on her own.
The City of Aurora's Crimes Against Children unit is in the middle of an extensive investigation, but the mother has not been charged, police said.
