WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. – Officials evacuated homes near the source of a strong odor that prompted a HazMat response in Wheat Ridge Thursday night, but eventually found no hazardous threats.
Firefighters responded to a home in the 4400 block of Simms Street around 10:30 p.m. and found an odor coming from a pool shed on a neighboring property.
Two people inside the home were taken to a hospital. Their conditions weren't clear.
Firefighters said Friday morning that the odor wasn’t affecting any other homes in the area but firefighters later decided to evacuate nearby homes and an RV park. Emergency notifications were sent to residents within a 14-block radius.
It’s unclear what was producing the odor. Investigators said they did not find any hazards or chemical readings.
Officials from Buckley Air Force Base assisted with the investigation.
Residents were allowed to return home around 2 p.m.
