PUEBLO, Colo. - A female patient at the Pueblo State Hospital was stabbed in both eyes by another patient with a pair of scissors Wednesday.
CALL7 Investigator John Ferrugia said the attack happened in the woman's room on the Acute Cognitive Behavior Unit at the hospital, the largest public psychiatric hospital in the state. The ACBU is a low-security transitional unit where patients are prepared to re-enter the community, Ferrugia said.
The woman lost one eye and may lose sight in the other, he said. She is currently undergoing treatment.
The suspected attacker is also a patient in the ACBU.
The Pueblo Chieftain reports that according to an affidavit, Lamar Del Ray Davis is being held without bond in connection with the attack.
Hospital officials are only saying there was a "patient incident" and that two patients were taken to Parkview Hospital.
"The incident will be thoroughly investigated and procedures reviewed to determine whether changes need to be made to ensure the safety of all residents," said Colorado Mental Health Institute superintendent Bill May.
