2 injured as small plane crash lands short of Eagle County Airport runway

GYPSUM, Colo. - A single-engine plane with two people on board crashed in an open area short of the runway at the Eagle County Regional Airport Friday afternoon.

The pilot and passenger were transported by ambulance from the crash location, which was about 750 feet from the runway.

According to witnesses, the 1964 Piper Comanche appeared to come up short on its landing approach.

Airport operations were temporarily suspended while emergency personnel responded to the crash. All operations have since resumed.

The plane is registered in California. Eagle County Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting, Greater Eagle Fire Protection District, Eagle County Paramedic Services and Eagle County Sheriff’s Office responded to the incident.

An investigation into what happened will be conducted by the National Transportation Safety Board.
