COMMERCE CITY, Colo. - One person was killed instantly and two others were critically injured in a head-on crash on Interstate 76 shortly before noon.
Earlier reports that indicated two people had died were incorrect.
The crash closed the interstate between U.S. Highway 85 and 120th Avenue, according to Officer Christian Rasmussen of the Commerce City Police Department.
Rasmussen told 7NEWS a westbound Toyota Camry crossed the median and collided with a Ford Ranger pickup traveling eastbound. The two vehicles landed upside down off the interstate.
Both occupants of the Camry were transported to the hospital, one in a helicopter and one taken by ambulance. Those two males have been stabilized, but they remain in critical care, Rasmussen said. The driver of the pickup died at the scene.
Both directions of the interstate were expected to remain closed for several more hours. Drivers should avoid the area if possible, police said.
