FOUNTAIN, Colo. - A car driving the wrong way on southbound Interstate 25 collided with a package truck Thursday morning, killing one person and forcing the closure of southbound lanes near Fountain for several hours.
The Colorado State Patrol said the driver of the Toyota Camry, a 19-year-old from Colorado Springs, was killed in the crash. The 49-year-old driver of the Fedex semitrailer refused medical treatment but was shaken up.
Drivers were diverted to other roads while authorities investigated the accident, which occurred around 4:25 a.m. at the Ray Nixon exit, about 3 miles south of Fountain.
I-25 reopened around 10 a.m.
Police did not say why the teen was driving the wrong way, and that the Fedex driver did try to avoid the crash, according to ABC affiliate KRDO-TV.
The CSP said the victim was not wearing a seat belt.
