16-year-old boy arrested for stealing rifles from Grand Junction Cabela's

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - A 16-year-old boy is accused of stealing two rifles from the Cabela's in Grand Junction.

An officer with the Grand Junction Police Department arrested Florencio Gonzalez, of Clifton, Tuesday night.

Investigators said Gonzales stole the two rifles by hiding them in his pants and walking out of the store. Investigators believe the teen may have had an accomplice who distracted employees.

Officers used surveillance video from the store and information about a vehicle the thief may have left in to identify a house connected to the suspect.

When officers were allowed inside, they found the two stolen rifles - and a third gun that had been stolen from a pawn shop - but not the suspects.

Later in the evening, officers got a tip that one of the suspects had returned to the house.

Gonzales took off running when police tried to contact him, but officers caught him after a short foot chase.

Gonzalez is facing charges of possession of a firearm by a juvenile-repeat offender, obstruction, theft, violation of a restraining order, criminal impersonation, and a warrant for failure to comply.
