JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. - Prosecutors are seeking to try a 15-year-old as an adult in a stabbing that killed one man and injured two others in Lakewood.

Miguel Angel Ita is accused of killing Jose Barrera-Mendoza, 22, on April 21. Ita faces 18 counts, including first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault and second-degree assault.

Lakewood police arrived at 285 S Jay St. around 1:50 a.m. to find three people  in a parking lot with injuries from the stabbing. One victim had “relatively minor injuries,” while the other two were transported to a hospital, police say.

Jose Barrera-Mendoza died of his injuries at the hospital. The name of the other two victims has not been released.

Police arrested Ita at the scene.

The District Attorney of Jefferson and Gilpin Counties want to have Ita tried as an adult.

Ita appeared in court Thursday to be advised of the charges against him. Prosecutors filed a request for a transfer hearing, but no date has been set.

Ita is being held without bond at the juvenile detention center.
