13-year-old Wheat Ridge teen helps Jefferson County investigators bust suspected predator

WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. - A teenager in Wheat Ridge helped police arrest a man on suspicion of internet luring and enticement.

The girl, just 13 years old, called police in November and reported that a man was saying inappropriate things on her Facebook page.

She thought his name was Edward Gutierrez.

The teen told police she thought she knew the man when she friended him, but when she looked at his Facebook page, she realized he was an older man and a stranger.

Investigators with the Jefferson County District Attorney got involved.

Prosecutors said DA investigator Mike Harris contacted Gutierrez, pretending to be an under-aged teen.

According to court records, Gutierrez engaged in numerous sexually graphic communications often via text messaging or through social networking sites.

Prosecutors said Gutierrez asked the "teen" to meet him for the purpose of sexual contact.

Gutierrez flew from Philadelphia to Denver on Friday morning, rented a car at the airport, and then drove to Jefferson County, prosecutors said.

Investigators said when Gutierrez, 38, arrived at a restaurant in Wheat Ridge, he met an undercover investigator and was arrested on suspicion of internet luring of a child, enticement of a child and internet sexual exploitation of a child.
