12 handguns, 3 rifles stolen in Wheat Ridge gun shop burglary

Wheat Ridge police said Friday that 12 handguns and three rifles were taken in a burglary at a local gun shop earlier this week.

Police were called to Gunsmoke Guns at  9690 West 44th Ave., before dawn on Wednesday. Officers found the gun shop had been burglarized through a hole in the roof.

Agents and investigators with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives aided in an inventory of the gun shop, police said.

A witness, who was directly across the street from the gun shop, told police they saw a silver two-door car leaving the shop's parking lot and going eastbound on West 44th Avenue. There was no description of the suspects, but police did say it appeared more than one person was involved

Police are asking the public to help by providing any information they have which may lead to the identification of those involved and the recovery of any stolen property.

Anyone having information on the case is asked to call the Wheat Ridge Police Department Tip Line at 303-235-2947.

Gunsmoke Guns was featured on the Discovery Channel TV show, "American Guns."  The store's website indicates the shop is one of the premiere firearms facilities in the world.

The store is owned by Rich and Renee Wyatt. They buy, sell and trade guns from hand cannons to hunting rifles.
