FORT COLLINS, Colo. - One person was killed and two others were seriously injured in a head-on collision north of Fort Collins on Tuesday afternoon.
Colorado State Patrol spokesman Trooper Paul Dirkes said a silver Kia Sorento SUV was traveling southbound on Terry Lake Road when it drifted onto the shoulder of the road.
The Kia then veered back across the road, striking the front of a northbound black Ford Contour sedan, Dirkes said. The Ford went off the west side of the road and rolled onto its side. The Kia came to a stop on the east side of the road.
Passersby stopped and helped roll the Ford back onto its wheels, Dirkes said.
One occupant of the Ford died at the scene and another occupant was transported to Medical Center of the Rockies with serious injuries. One person from the Kia was transported to Poudre Valley Hospital with serious bodily injuries.
The cause of the crash is under investigation and Dirkes said investigators will explore whether speed was a contributing factor in the wreck. The roadway has a posted speed limit of 45 mph.
