1 dead, 1 injured in senior high-rise shooting in West Denver

DENVER - A gunman is dead after entering a high-rise senior living facility at West Colfax Avenue and Quitman Street on Thursday afternoon.

According to police, another person inside the Metro Manor complex was shot and critically injured. The suspected gunman then committed suicide inside an apartment.

The shootings were reported at about 2:30 p.m.

Some witnesses identified the person who was injured as the manager of the apartments, although police haven't confirmed any details about the victim.

People who identified themselves as relatives of the man who died said he was a resident of the building and was upset about the manager's plans to inspect his apartment.

"It's kind of scary because I've never seen this kind of action before in real life. I've seen it on TV, but to actually be here to see it in my own eyes, it's pretty scary," said Melissa Hankerson.

"There was a SWAT guy getting all his gear on and he went inside and when he came out, he said there was a shooter that went inside," Chaim Wren, another witness, told 7NEWS.
