Lease Issues Could Delay Trader Joe's

Applebee's Wants To Stay Open Until Late 2012

Plans to open a Trader Joe's grocery store in Boulder could be delayed.

Trader Joe's is planning to open in 2013 at 1906 28th St. in Boulder. However, that spot is currently occupied by an Applebee's restaurant.

The operators of the Applebee's told the Boulder Daily Camera they want to stay until their lease expires in what they called late 2012.

Trader Joe's said it expected the Applebee's to close and be razed by as early as late summer.

Trader Joe's plans to open a 14,000-square-foot store that "will feature a festive decor that mixes traditional Trader Joe's elements such as cedar covered walls and Hawaiian motifs, combined with a local flair that includes art celebrating the neighborhood."
