Radio and TV personality Glenn Beck is giving a Colorado Springs women's shelter $55,000 to make up for the loss of a federal grant over the executive director's refusal to stop mandating Bible studies for the clients, according to the Colorado Springs Gazette.

The director of Gospel Shelters for Women said the organization lost $25,000 a year in HUD money plus another $25,000 from another federal program that ran out of money.

Gospel Shelters for Women operates Liza's Place and a companion program called Hope's Home.

The director of the shelter, Marilyn Vyzourek, is an ordained minister. She told the newspaper she mandated Bible studies for the women of Liza's Place, many of whom are recovery drug and alcohol addicts who are coming out of prison and find themselves homeless.

Hope's Home is for women with both mental health and substance abuse problems.
