WESTMINSTER, Colo. - A 7-year-old Westminster boy riding a tricycle on the street was hit by a pickup truck and seriously injured on Monday night, police said.

The boy was struck about 7:05 p.m. as he rode at an intersection in Casa Estates, a manufactured home complex at 860 W. 132nd Ave., police said.

The pickup driver, a 48-year-old man who lives in the complex, was arrested on suspicion of careless driving resulting in serious bodily injury, police said. Police did not release the name of the man, who was processed at the Westminster Police Department and released.

The boy was transported by the Westminster Fire Department to St. Anthony North Hospital. He was later taken by helicopter to Children’s Hospital in Aurora, police said.

Police said they did not know the boy's condition late Monday night, but the arrest charge made it clear the child suffered serious injuries.

The police traffic unit continues to investigate the collision.
