Legacy High School student killed in Westminster crash

WESTMINSTER, Colo. – A 16-year-old Legacy High School student was killed instantly after a driver reportedly hit him at a busy intersection in Westminster Saturday morning.

The crash happened at around 11:45 a.m. in the area of 112th Avenue and Federal Boulevard, according to a witness who contacted Denver7.

A person who contacted police said a female driver had side swiped their car at 103th Avenue before continuing north on Federal, where investigators said the driver struck the teen, who was standing on the northeast median at 112th.

Officers said the boy was killed instantly, while the driver – who remained at the scene – was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

While the identity of the student will be released by the Adams County Coroner’s office, Joe Ferdani, a spokesman for the Adams 12 Five Star Schools District, said the teenager attended one of their schools. 

"The Legacy High School and Adams 12 Five Star Schools community is mourning the loss of one of its own students who passed away in an auto/pedestrian accident on Saturday. We extend our thoughts and prayers to the family during this difficult time," Ferdani said in a a statement. 

At this time, police do not believe alcohol or drugs were a contributing factor.
