MEAD, Colo. -- Weld County authorities are investigating after a woman was found shot dead Wednesday morning.

The 51-year-old woman, who has yet to be identified, was found with multiple gunshot wounds to the head in the 100 block of Hunters Cove Road around 8 a.m.

The Weld County Sheriff’s Office warned Mead residents earlier Wednesday not to be worried if they see its vehicles in the area, saying there is no threat to people’s safety.

That indeed turned out to be the case, as the sheriff’s office said just before 5 p.m. that Ronald Budler, 49, was arrested Wednesday afternoon and charged with first-degree murder in the woman’s death.

Budler is expected to be booked Wednesday evening, and the sheriff’s office says it is not releasing further details “to preserve the integrity” of the case.
