WELD COUNTY, Colo. -- Searchers looking for a missing 13-month-old in a Weld County landfill think they are in the right area.

The search for the body of missing 13-month-old Silas Ojeda started Tuesday.

Recovery workers feel like they are in the right area of the refuse because of items like old mail with addresses, etc. on them, according to the Laramie County Sheriff's Office.

Ojeda was reported missing by his grandfather in Cheyenne on Wednesday, Oct. 26. After interviewing several people, deputies said the boy is believed to be dead and deputies arrested the boy's mother's boyfriend, Logan Rogers. Rogers is charged with manslaughter and child endangering.

Authorities believe the boy's body was left in a Dumpster near Larimer County Community College. Wyoming officials said the dumpster was taken to a landfill in Ault, Colorado.

There are multiple agencies at the landfill search including the Laramie County [Wyoming] Sheriff's Office, Weld County [Colorado] Sheriff's Office, F.E. Warren Air Force Base, Laramie County Emergency Management, the 84th Civil Support Team [Wyoming National Guard], Laramie County Road and Bridge and Laramie County Fire District.

Death investigation

Deputies said they are still trying to formally interview Ojeda's mother, Rhiannon Ojeda. She was reportedly hospitalized after her son was reported missing.

When she was initially questioned, she told police she saw her son on Saturday, October 22, then went to work, leaving Silas in the care of her boyfriend, Logan Rogers, according to Roger's arrest affidavit.

However, Rogers told investigators the boy died October 21.

Deputies said during their investigation that they interviewed the father of another child of Rhiannon's.

He told deputies when he asked Ojeda on Sunday, Oct. 23, where Silas was, he said Rhiannon told him the boy was at her friend Aubrey's house, according to the affidavit.
