THORNTON, Colo. – An aggressive dog on the loose is preventing Thornton residents from getting important mail delivered to their homes.

Service to 36 homes has been stopped in the area of Hoffman Way and Russell Boulevard after postal workers had “repeated dangerous encounters with a threatening dog,” according to a US Postal Service spokesperson.

The spokesperson said the postal service delivered several warnings to the dog owner, but to no avail.

Thornton Police, on the other hand, said Animal Control hasn’t been notified of any dog issues in the area.

The post office said this type of behavior is typical and encountered often by postal workers.

A similar situation unfolded this week in a Lakewood neighborhood, where officials said a boxer was impounded and sent to Foothills Animal Shelter after reportedly jumping a 6-foot fence and biting a postal worker in the leg.

In this situation, the postal service told customers to pick up their mail at their Lakewood station, 10799 W. Alameda Avenue, Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. and Saturdays between 9:30 a.m. and noon.
