MORRISON, Colo. - Thousands of people gathered at Red Rocks Amphitheatre Sunday for the annual Easter Sunrise Service.
The service, which began at 6 a.m., was directed by Rev. Dr. Jim Ryan, Executive Director of the Colorado Council of Churches.
This service will be the last Sunrise Service Ryan will be in charge of since he will be retiring from the Council of Churches in May. Ryan has been in charge of the Easter service for the past 13 years.
A musical group called Women of Note from St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Highlands Ranch performed at the service.
The service was web-cast live on the Red Rocks website.
Worshipers were admitted as early at 4:30 a.m. and brought non-perishable food to give to the COMPA Food Bank Ministry. An offering taken during the service will be used to cover the cost of the event, which totaled over $20,000.
