LONGMONT, Colo. -- A Longmont woman said she was assaulted near a busy road earlier this month and wants to warn others about her assailant who she says is still at-large.
Gabrielle Langmoore says she was out on a walk near 23rd Avenue and Gay Street the night of Aug. 20 when a man approached her to ask for directions, then grabbed her.
“Literally I just panicked,” she said, “and I tried to get away from him and as soon as I did that he just literally latched onto a chunk of hair and started dragging me out into the field and basically told me that if I made a sound he would kill me.”
She said he took her into a baseball field right at the corner of the street and assaulted her before taking off.
Langmoore filed a report with Longmont Police, but tells Denver7 she wants to get the word out to people in the area before her attacker targets someone else.
“There's a lot of women here that need to kind of have their heads on a swivel,” she said.
She said another reason for speaking out about the attack is that as a transgender woman, this isn’t her first experience being assaulted.
“I was really frightened,” she said, “like, especially being transgender, like, I literally thought I was getting murdered that night.”
Langmoore waited a few days before contacting police because she said she’s had past experiences in previous states where police have taken away her trust in authorities.
She plans to meet with Longmont police on Monday to help them in their investigation.
“I kind of have a duty to make sure that people are aware that this is out there,” she said.
She describes her attacker as a male, around 6-feet tall, with several tattoos on his face.
She said first responders immediately made her aware of resources for victims of sexual assault through programs like Moving to End Sexual Assault (MESA).
“You just don't do that to another human being,” she said.
