LONGMONT, Colo. - An injured skydiver is scheduled for surgery Saturday after he was blown off course and crash-landed on the roof of a Longmont home.
Mike, a 31-year-old from Montrose, encountered 20 mph winds while trying to land at the Vance Brand Municipal Airport Friday. He was slammed into the roof of a house at 4115 Florentine Drive, about a mile from the airport, just after 4 p.m.
The impact punched a hole in the roof.
Longmont firefighters used a bucket truck to reach Mike and stabilize his knee injuries before bringing him down to a waiting ambulance.
Police spokesman Commander Jeff Satur said Mike will undergo surgery Saturday to repair his left leg, which was fractured below the knee.
"Mike's wife and family are very thankful to the witnesses who located him in the neighborhood and the rescuers who helped get him off the roof," Satur wrote in an email update.
