Suspects identified in Lakewood Walmart shoplifting and chase into Denver

Child was in car during the chase

LAKEWOOD, Colo. - Lakewood police have identified a man and woman accused of shoplifting from a Walmart before leading officers on a chase with a child in their car.

The chase began after officers received a call at around 11:10 a.m. about a shoplifting incident at the Walmart store on Wadsworth Boulevard and West Colfax Avenue, said Lakewood Police Department spokesman Steve Davis. A security guard tried to stop the man, later identified as 29-year-old Angelo Erin Arrellano, but he brandished a handgun.

No shots were fired.

As officers arrived at the store, the suspects departed in a gray SUV and refused to stop. Davis said officers followed the SUV and were joined by officers from Denver when the chase entered that city.

Eventually, the SUV stopped in the area of 12th Avenue and Perry Street, where the male driver got out and ran. Jamie Lee Carrillo, 28, and a child remained in the vehicle.

Carrillo was arrested and the child was placed in foster care, Davis said.

Arrellano eluded police for over an hour, until about 1 p.m. when officers using a K-9 found his hiding place. He was taken to a hospital for treatment after being bitten by the dog.

Charges against Carillo and Arellano include aggravated robbery, theft, felony menacing, child abuse and traffic violations.
