Police say they have identified the “Santa” who stabbed a rider on an RTD bus early Christmas Eve.

Lakewood police say they have obtained a warrant for Brian Delorme, 34. Detectives believe he was the suspect who was wearing a complete Santa Claus costume when he stabbed a man shortly after 1 a.m. on Dec. 24.

Delorme was arrested on Monday in Walsenburg for unrelated warrants out of Denver. After Lakewood detectives learned of his arrest, they also obtained a warrant for suspicion of attempted first-degree murder and first-degree assault.

Delorme remains in custody for now in Walsenburg.

Police started investigating the stabbing, which occurred in the area of Sheridan Boulevard and West Florida Avenue, after the bus driver called 911 to report the stabbing. The bus driver said two men were arguing when the man dressed in a Santa Claus suit stabbed the other man and then ran off.

The victim was transported to a hospital and survived his injuries.

Arrangements for transporting Delorme to the Jefferson County Jail, as well as his scheduled first court appearance, have yet to be finalized.
