LAKEWOOD, Colo. - Flames were shooting out of the back of one unit of a Lakewood duplex when firefighters arrived Friday morning.
West Metro Fire Rescue says the burning unit of a duplex at 303 N. Harlan St. was empty when they arrived to suppress the flames around 5:30 a.m. They had the fire out within about 15 minutes.
The woman who lives in that unit of the duplex and an occasional roommate were not home at the time. The neighboring unit, at 301, is vacant.
From the street, black scorch marks were visible under the eaves of the structure.
Traffic was blocked along N. Harlan St. from 2nd Ave. to 5th Ave. until about 7:20 a.m. as firefighters completed their response to the fire. An Xcel Energy team was on hand to cut power to the duplex.
The cause is now under investigation.
