A mother and her two children escaped a home invasion in Lafayette Wednesday morning.
The woman called 911 and said two men came into her home on Geneseo Street, near Baseline Road and Foote Avenue, and fired shots, police said.
Dispatchers helped coach the woman on how to get her kids and safely escape, according to John Sellers with Lafayette Police.
Boulder County SWAT officers blocked off the area as they tried to reach the suspects who they believed were inside the home. However, after a thorough search, authorities did not find anyone inside the house.
After searching the residence with a drone, robot, K-9 and SWAT officers, police say there is no indication shots were ever fired inside as well.
Residents who live next door to the duplex were evacuated from their homes and others in the neighborhood were told to shelter in place.
The whole scene had some people, like resident Martha Johnson, pretty shaken up.
"I heard yelling going on over there, I didn't hear any shots or anything but the policeman standing there you know, with his gun and he was like 'ma'am you need to get back in the house,' and I'm like 'I'm going right now," said Johnson.
Police identified the suspect as Michael Gipson, who was found in Broomfield and turned himself into police.
Nobody was hurt in the nearly five hour situation. Charges are pending against Gipson.
