GREELEY, Colo. - An undercover operation resulted in the arrest of a man who traveled to Greeley expecting to have sex with a 6-year-old boy, police say.
Brian Robert Heinrich, 37, was arrested Tuesday when he met an undercover officer. Greeley police spokeswoman Sgt. Susan West says Heinrich had believed the undercover man was going to escort him to meet the child.
The investigation began on June 10, West said, when a Homeland Security Investigations agent responded to a "suspicious internet posting."
During the 10 days that followed, the agent exchanged several emails with Heinrich. West said Heinrich expressed interest in traveling to Greeley to have sex with a boy and they arranged to have him meet the undercover officer.
Heinrich was carrying a digital storage device and camera equipment when he was arrested. West said emails exchanged with the agents indicated those were for the purpose of archiving the encounter.
Heinrich is being held at the Weld County Jail.
West added that anyone who suspects children are being victimized by predatory activity can call Homeland Security Investigations at 1-866-347-2423 or the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children at 1-800-843-5678.
