GREELEY, Colo. -- No children were inside a Greeley School District school bus that was involved in a crash late Thursday afternoon, the Greeley Fire Department Chief told Denver.

The crash was reported in the area of Highway 34 and 35th Avenue just before 5 p.m., a Greeley Fire Department official said.

The bus was reportedly traveling east when it stopped for traffic. When traffic started to move again, a driver allegedly rear-ended the school bus, according to Greeley police Sgt. Tanya Gutierrez.

The vehicle involved in the crash slid about two-thirds under the bus, the Fire Chief told Denver7. Crews were working to extricate that person trapped under the bus.

"We don't know why the person didn't stop," Gutierrez told Denver7. The investigation into this crash is ongoing.

Highway 34 was shut down at 47th Avenue as investigators and crews worked the scene. Westbound Highway 34 was open thru traffic.
