SWAT situation over in Greeley after suspect comes out from home

GREELEY, Colo. – Two men were arrested following an hours-long standoff in west Greeley Saturday afternoon. 

The standoff took place at a home in the area of 51^st Avenue and West 4^th Street, according to a Greeley Police Department spokesperson. Police were in the area after getting reports that an "armed and upset" man was barricaded inside. 

One of the suspects was identified as Nathan James Petit, 19, of Weld County. Police said he surrendered and came out of the home.

A second suspect, Nathan Dean Peters, 23, of Noblesville, Ind., remained inside until he was arrested by police. 

Peters reportedly told police that someone in the house had taken money and drugs from him and that he "was going to find them or harm would come to those inside the house," according to a news release from Greeley police.  

Police said Peters also had five active warrants out of Colorado and Indiana. 

Several neighboring homes were evacuated as a precaution and SWAT was also at the scene, the spokesperson said.

The situation was resolved at around 5:20 p.m., when one the barricaded suspects came out onto the streets after police used gas cannisters and a flash bang. 

Both suspects have each been charged with fist-degree kidnapping, first-degree burglary and menacing. This investigation is ongoing.
