GREELEY, Colo. - The first of three family members to face a jury on charges connected to a gang-related attempted murder in Greeley was found guilty. The other two family members have trials scheduled for May.
Richard Villa, 22, was convicted on Friday of attempting to commit first degree murder and first degree assault, at the conclusion of a week-long trial. He shot a man during what prosecutors call a "gang-related confrontation" outside a home in the 300 block of 18th Street on July 4, 2013.
Villa's sentencing is scheduled for April 29.
His brother, Omar Villa, 20, faces identical charges when he is brought to trial in May. Their mother, Margarita Salinas, 44, is accused of offering a false alibi for her sons and is scheduled to go to trial in May on a charge of being an accessory to a crime.
