FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- Unlike violent protests nationwide, rally organizers in Fort Collins hosted a peaceful, thought-provoking, considerate rally Saturday on the steps of the Larimer County Justice Center.

The crowd was estimated to be more than 1,000 people.

“Aside from being a student, I'm an Egyptian-born, American-raised, proud Muslim woman," said one attendee. "Regardless of our skin color, our faiths, our beliefs, the people we love -- we are all human."

In contrast to protests in other cities across the country this week, the Fort Collins rally looked and felt different. There was no march, there were no disparaging chants and no one got arrested.

"I think this is a unique opportunity for us to come together in solidarity and say, 'Hey, what kind of movement can we build together?'" said another rally-goer.

"I wanted to make sure that this gathering of people was non-violent and peaceful and I think we're seeing that," said state Senator John Kefalas.
