A Fort Collins mother accused of giving her teen son a pot brownie that he ate before jumping off a third-floor window was sentenced to 30 days in jail and two years probation.
A jury found Julieane Jablonski guilty of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute during the three-day trail in Larimer County, according to Jody Lacey, the 8th Judicial District Attorney's Office spokesperson.
Jablonksi will also have to complete 100 hours of community service, as well as submit to substance and mental health evaluations and complete any recommended treatment. She must also stay away from alcohol, as well as from consuming illegal substances and marijuana.
Austin Essig, then 19, was seriously injured when he plunged to the ground on the night of April 14, 2015 at an apartment complex at 1050 Hobbit Street, according to Fort Collins police.
The Associated Press reports Jablonski had purchased the brownie from a dispensary for her son's roommate. The 19-year-old roommate told police she Jablonski told him to lie about how he got the browning, but jurors did not convict her of felony witness tampering.
Police said Essig had consumed one dose of the marijuana brownie on the night of the incident. He soon began feeling the effects of the pot brownie and started acting strangely, police said.
Witnesses told police Essig ran toward the living room window and jumped out of it without hesitation, police said. Police and emergency medical responders found the teen on the ground below the third-floor window.
A person has to be age 21 or older to legally use or possess recreational marijuana under Amendment 64, a ballot measure approved by Colorado voters in 2012.
