FORT COLLINS, Colo. – A pedestrian was killed after possibly falling onto a roadway in Fort Collins Thursday evening, police say.

The crash was reported at around 6 p.m. in the area of South Taft Hill Road and Clearview Avenue.

Kevin Darts, 38, of Fort Collins, was reportedly driving south on South Taft Hill in the right through lane approaching Clearview Avenue when the pedestrian "may have slipped or fallen into the path of the vehicle before being struck," a Fort Collins Police Services officer said in a press release.

The pedestrian, whose identity will be released by the Larimer County Coroner's Office once the family has been notified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The intersection was closed both ways for about four hours. Roads were back open shortly before 10 p.m.

Residents who live along the road worry the narrow sidewalk may have played a role in the pedestrian's death.

"Even when it's not bad weather. Even when the sidewalk is clear it's still dangerous walking right there. You're really close to the cars coming by and  if you're walking with anybody else you're single-file in line because somebody is otherwise going to be in the road," Jacob Balthazor told Denver7.

"It's nerve-racking. I don't like walking along there even when it's cleared."
