Man demands earrings back from woman, fires shot in air, Englewood police say

Police searching for accused gunman

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. - Who says men don't care about jewelry?

Englewood police say a man was so irate about getting his earrings back from a woman that he threatened her with a gun, firing a shot in the air.

Police were called at 11:04 p.m. Tuesday to the 3100 block of West Union Avenue on a report of a felony menacing and prohibited use of weapon.

A 25-year-old woman told police a man came to her home and accused her of stealing his earrings. "She said, 'No, he gave them to me,'" said Englewood Police spokesman Investigator Kevin Sage.

They argued and the 26-year-old man pulled a silver automatic handgun from his waistband and threatened the woman.

He fired a shot into the air, saying that was going to happen to the woman if she did not give him the earrings or $1,000, according to police. The man eventually drove off in a red GMC pickup truck.

Sage said the man and woman were friends -- not boyfriend and girlfriend.

"He was mad enough to shoot a gun in the air and threaten her and then he left because he knew the cops were coming," Sage said.

Englewood officers searched the neighborhood, but were unable to find the suspect. Denver police went to the man’s apartment in the city, but they also couldn't find him.

Police are not releasing the suspect's name at this time and the hunt for him continued on Wednesday.
