Wanted fugitive Paul Chavez nabbed in Denver Monday evening

DENVER - SWAT officers and parole officers arrested a wanted fugitive outside a check cashing business at Colfax and Emerson Monday evening.

Paul Chavez, 25, was reportedly planning to meet someone there before he was caught. Department of Corrections spokeswoman Sue Cobb says the specialized Fugitive Apprehension Unit of the DOC worked with the Denver Police Department to make the arrest.

Chavez was charged Monday with the possession of dangerous drugs and also arrested on open warrants in two other jurisdictions, Colorado Bureau of Investigation records show. Cobb explained that Chavez was wanted for violating his parole and for escape in Arapahoe County.

Records also show Chavez has past convictions for intimidation and stalking involving a threat, assault and failure to register as a sex offender.
