As TheDenverChannel reported last May, Trader Joe's has signed a lease to open a Denver location with a target opening date in 2013.
The new 14,000-square-foot grocery store is located on the southeast corner of 8th Avenue and Colorado Boulevard. A 3,740-square-foot separate wine shop will be adjacent to the grocery store. The first Colorado location in Boulder was announced earlier this year and is also scheduled to open in 2013.
The Denver store will feature a festive decor that mixes traditional Trader Joe’s elements such as cedar covered walls and Hawaiian motifs, combined with a local flair that includes art celebrating the neighborhood.
The land for the Colorado Boulevard location was owned by Denver hotel developer Charlie Biederman, who had planned to use the site for a hotel development in 2007, the Denver Business Journal reported.
When the initial report came out in May, a spokeswoman for the Monrovia, Calif.-based chain could not comment.
