DENVER (AP) -- A Thornton pet store owner who pleaded guilty to one count of misdemeanor animal cruelty has been sentenced to a year of probation.

The Denver Post reports Lynn Kubic, one of the owners of Jurassic Pets in Thornton, was sentenced Wednesday and ordered to complete 100 hours of community service. She also must not have any contact with animals.

Her husband, 62-year-old Kenneth Kubic, was sentenced to four years in prison after he was found guilty of 18 counts of animal cruelty. The couple's son, 22-year-old Brian Kubic, was sentenced to probation after pleading guilty to misdemeanor animal cruelty.

Prosecutors say kittens, hedgehogs, reptiles and rodents at the store were confined in unsanitary conditions without food, water and veterinary care. Some of the animals died and others were euthanized after the shop was raided.
