DENVER - Denver police are trying to identify a smiling thief who swiped a woman's purse from a store dressing room and withdrew more than $3,000 from the victim's credit card.
The crime began at about 2:45 p.m. on January 10, when a woman was shopping at Ann Taylor Loft on the 16th Street Mall, police said.
The woman was trying on clothes in a dressing room when she briefly stepped out, leaving her purse behind.
A female thief slipped into the dressing room, grabbed the purse and left before the victim returned, police said.
Soon afterward, a surveillance camera at the Colorado State Bank and Trust branch at 1600 Broadway captured the theft suspect smiling broadly as she used a fraudulent driver's license to withdraw more than $3,000 from the victim's credit card, police said.
A $2,000 reward is offered for information leading to the arrest and charging of the thief sought in this case.
Police say anyone who has information about the crime or the suspect can anonymously call Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867; or you can text CRIMES (274637) with the subject title DMCS and enter the message; or email metro-denvercrimestoppers.com.
