Police have arrested a man in connection with the stabbing death of a woman at a Denver apartment

Woman found stabbed in Leetsdale Avenue apartment

DENVER - A 55-year-old man has been arrested in the stabbing death of a woman at a southeast Denver apartment on Wednesday night.

Police were called at 6:14 p.m. on a reported stabbed at an apartment building at 7005 East Leetsdale Drive.

Arriving officers discovered the body of an unconscious woman suffering from apparent stab wounds inside an apartment, police said. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Police said they arrested Mike Burnett a short distance from the crime scene. He was being held on investigation of homicide.

Police say Burnett and the victim knew one another, but police would not disclose the nature of their relationship.

But a police incident report described the offense as "Homicide - Family."

Property records show the apartment resident is a 21-year-old woman with the same last name as Mike Burnett. The woman and Mike Burnett used to live at the same residence in Erwin, Tenn.

Police said the cause of death and identity of the victim will be released by the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner.
