DENVER -- If you are heading to the game Thursday, you might want to make sure you park in the right spot.

If you park illegally near the stadium you could risk not just getting your car towed, but sold to the highest bidder.

The Denver County Sheriff's Department told Denver7 that Broncos game nights are the highest towing days of the year.

At first, the cars will get towed if they are found parked illegally in a temporary impound lot. Then, they will get moved to a permanent impound lot. After that? They will be up for auction if the owner doesn't claim them after some time.

When it doubt, it's always good to ask a police officer around on where to park.

The city makes about $5.9 million a year from the auctions. The money goes into the city's general fund.
